Duncan and Alex’s Books: Legends of Mythical Creatures – This is the original version of Kara’s book, Mythical Creatures - Fantasy and Fairytales. Minister James had it re-written along with A Dragyn’s Tale in order to push non-human creatures to the outskirts of society and justify his enslavement of dragonkind. The Dragons Book of Myths & Secrets – This is an ode to The Woman’s Encyclopedia of Myths & Secrets by Barbara G. Walker (©1983), a magnificent treasure of fascinating historical references explained back to their roots. Under My Spell, A Manifesto – Written by Minister James and about as fascinating as Mein Kempf. Downfall: Coppers and Golds – This is an historical account of how a previous Kanadan culture destroyed itself by elevating the need for power and wealth over that of the health of the land and its people. David and the Keys of Catastrophe – Catastrophe is a book by David Keys (©1999) chronicling the worldwide catastrophes that began in 535ce (common era) with dramatic climate change, famine and plague which affected cultures from the Roman Empire to China to the Middle East to the Americas. Claws & Lamentations –Often outrageous satirical stories written by the greatest dragon playwright, Tim of the West Peaks. His characters portray human personality traits and endlessly stumble through absurd scenarios to the delight of dragon audiences world wide. Cyclops Whisperer – Alex’s favorite book. Le Bois – The philosophical dilemma: to use defenseless trees for one’s own benefit or to allow them their own personal journey, free from the tyranny of axe and saw. This is an ode to the song, “The Trees” by RUSH. Recommended viewing: The Woodwright’s Shop on PBS. Bonne Bouffé – This is an ode to “Good Eats” with Alton Brown, a tv show mix of Julia Child, Monty Python and The Wizard. Cooking With Grubs – Duncan’s favorite book. Fungi – Separate from plants, animals, minerals or bacteria, the Fungi Family includes molds, yeasts and mushrooms. Mycelium Running by Paul Stamets (©2005) explains how mushrooms can save the world. Needles – A history of the evolution and uses of needles. From wood and pine needles to bone and quills to metal, needles have played a significant role in the development of clothing, tools and weapons, housing, tattooing, medicine and other applications too numerous to count. Rocks & Gems – If you are interested in rocks, gems or fun science projects of every sort, we suggest checking out www.teachersource.com Faeries – Creative methods of humanely controlling the constant hijinx of this common pest. Faeries breed like mosquitoes and during peak years (coinciding with solar maximum) the pranks, giggling and whizzing about can drive one mad. Learn to build intriguing decoys, mazes, puzzles and traps to keep the little buggers preoccupied and out of your hair. Embrassade – Cats and Eskimos do it with their noses. Snails and wasps use their antennae. Parrots rub their beaks together. Everything kisses (especially faeries) and this encyclopedic volume covers them all. Where the Cobblestones End: A Collection of Dragon Poetry – If you have never read Where the Sidewalk Ends: Poems and Drawings by Chel Silverstein (©1974), then go out and find it right now. It is the epitome of breakthrough books for the budding poet in every child of any age. Insects:Exotic & Mundane – The title says it all, plus lots of scary, close-up drawings. Keeping Dirt Alive – Every spoonful of healthy soil has hundreds of thousands of micro-organisms and if they die, we die. Teaming with Microbes by Jeff Lowenfels & Wayne Lewis (©2010) is a must-read for anyone into nature or gardening or biology. Soothing the Mandrake – This is an ode to Professor Sprout and her creator, J.K. Rowling. Adam&Elliot – This is an ode to the absolutely brilliant clay animated movie “Mary & Max,” by Adam Elliot (©2009). Roughly based on a true story, it chronicles the letters between two very unlikely pen-pals, an odd yet curious 5 year old in Australia and a man living with Asperger’s Syndrome in New York. Dramatically charming, Adam’s movie will make you cry, and smile. L’Enfer de Dante – The Italian classic translated into French. MMI – A reference to the book by Arthur C. Clark and the genre of prognostic science fiction. His peers include Robert A. Heinlein and Isaac Asimov. MCMLXXXIV – A reference to the book by George Orwell that every person on earth should read. Considered by some to be as dangerous to society as books like A Brave New World by Aldous Huxley and We by Yevgeny Zamyatin, it followed his novella, Animal Farm, and led the way for works such as Fahrenheit 451 by Ray Bradbury and The Handmaid’s Tale by Margaret Atwood. A Dragyn’s Tale – This copy is signed by Kyle. tell no tales – An album by TNT which includes “Northern Lights”, a song that matches this story to a T.
